Mohammedan Sporting win Sambalpur Cup

Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata edged out Tata Football Academy (TFA), Jamshedpur 2-1 in the final to win the 4th All-India Sambalpur Cup Football Tournament, which concluded at Veer Surendra Sai Stadium in Sambalpur today. After a goalless first half, Jagtar Singh gave TFA the lead in the 67th minute. Eight minutes later, Mohammedan Sporting hit back with Edward Edu scoring the equaliser. When the match seemed to be heading for penalty shoot out, Nirendra Dewan netted the match-winner for Mohammedan Sporting in the 82nd minute. TFA Technical Director Shyam Thapa graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and handed over the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs to the winners. Runners-up TFA received Rs 1 lakh. Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra and officials of host Samaleswari Sporting and Sambalpur District Athletic Association were present on the occasion. Earlier in the semi-finals, Mohammedan Sporting edged out Army-XI, Kolkatta 11-10, via penalty shoot out, while TFA prevailed over Amity United, Haryana 1-0.
